Advantages of HostGator

HostGator’s uptime performance was an issue in the last few years. But not anymore, based on our 12 months’ tracking. However, their customer service was super fast and friendly. They’ll help you to move your site over to their service for totally free. And beginners will like a lot of the simple and intuitive options directed their way.

Here’s a quick Hostgator Review:

1. Stable Uptime of 99.99%

HostGator has posted an average of 99.99% uptime with a bit more than six hours of downtime over the last 1 year. That’s the best uptime we have seen. The good part is that they have an uptime guarantee. HostGator says that if the Uptime drops below 99.90%, you can receive one month of credit on your account. However, you will have to reach out to them. And ask for the credit by submitting a support ticket to their billing department within 1 month. Recently, We’ve started to see a few other hosting providers pop up with uptime guarantees. That means all customers win as a result. So, from our HostGator Review, we can say that they have stable uptime.

2. Decent Load Time 734 ms

It’s very important to have a fast page loading time. HostGator’s servers had no issues keeping our website up and live over the last year. HostGator provides an average page loading time of 734 ms. This is decent enough to get a spot in our pros section. Moreover, HostGator has improved its page loading times.

3. Good Customer Support

Similar to other popular hosting providers, HostGator provides a knowledge base, phone, email, and live chat support. However, we tested out their live chat option. We asked a few simple questions about their shared hosting plans. And got connected to a customer representative within two minutes. The replies were very fast and knowledgeable. Overall, it was a quite good customer support experience. So, from our HostGator Review, we can say that they have very good customer support.

4. 45-Days Money-Back Guarantee

HostGator is so confident in their hosting service. So, they extend the industry-refund policy to 45 days. That means you can use HostGator for over a full month. And still get your purchase price back if any issues pop up. This 45-days money-back guarantee applies to all reseller, shared, and VPS hosting packages. Remember, this does not apply to HostGator’s administrative fees, dedicated servers, and install fees for custom software. This is fairly common in the hosting industry. However, no refunds will be given on checks, Western Union payments, money orders, or bank wire transfers. Refunds are only available for new plans. Moreover, HostGator processes foreign currency refunds in the U.S. Dollar exchange rates.

5. Security Features Available

HostGator’s shared hosting plans are awesome. You’re getting enough for one website. Fortunately, they offer a few extra security features. They provide SiteLock monitoring to your site. This service will run daily. It looks for any potential site breaches or hacks and let you know instantly when they find it. Also, they offer Spam Assassin to help prevent spam from hitting your inbox. However, SiteLock will cost you a little extra money. The sticker price is $1.99/mo, billed annually at $23.88.

6. Free Site Transfer & cPanel Migrations

If you are trying to move an existing one over, HostGator’s got your back. You’ll have 30 days after sign-up to get in touch. They will move any site files, scripts, databases, and even a domain name over for you. So, this includes a full cPanel transfer. All of HostGator’s shared hosting plans have a free single site migration. So, from our HostGator Review, we are pleased with their free site transfer system.

7. Very User-Friendly for Beginners

HostGator is tailor-made for beginner bloggers or website builders. Their website is full of walkthroughs, tutorials, and more to help you. Also, they have extra features for beginners. It will help you set up a site without the hassle of hiring other people. Their website builder tool is one of the better ones that we reviewed. It comes with a free domain name and hosting. So, you just need to purchase a single account. The customizable templates are modern. So, you can easily customize using their dragging and dropping feature. Also, you will get site analytics and a free SSL certificate. This will help you safeguard your visitors’ personal data. So, from our HostGator Review, we can say that HostGator is very user friendly for beginners.

Disadvantages of HostGator

Unfortunately, we found a few issues along the way while testing them out. Unfortunately, some extra services like security and backups will be tacked on as additional fees. Moreover, the renewal rates rise too much after your first term expires. Here are the biggest problems we found:

1. Lots of Extra Fees

HostGator’s ‘extra’ stuff, like site backups, SiteLock Monitoring, Gmail access, and SEO tools will all cost you more when it’s time to checkout. It’s disappointing because many of these features look like they are available. When you enter your billing information, then you’ll realize all of these extra features will cost you. Gmail is the standard $5/month or $60/year per user. But SiteLock will cost you $19.99/year, CodeGuard (to backup your sites) will cost you $23.95/year. However, they don’t even keep many previous versions of your website. At first the initial plan seems inexpensive, but it starts to become quite pricey. So, from our HostGator Review, we can say that HostGator should minimize these extra fees.

2. Industry-Standard Pricing ‘Tricks’

HostGator pulls pricing tricks that are quite standard in the industry. They advertise a low rate like $2.75/month to prepay for a full three years. Otherwise, you need to buy at $10.95/month for an actual single month. However, HostGator’s renewal pricing jumps dramatically after your first plan expires. At that point, your monthly hosting rate for the same plan jumps to $6.95/month. That is more than double what you just paid for the same exact hosting service. We reviewed other hosting, they also pull this same stunt. However, that doesn’t mean we have to like it.
